Documentary of another team building session from TAXAND’s Paris event, at l’Hôtel du Collectionneur. This particular workshop focused on group-based problem solving.

The workshop concluded with a large group portrait, which we tried in a couple of locations, including the hotel’s curved staircases leading to the event foyer.

This post-conference outing was the main social event from TAXAND’s global summit. which took place at the Hippodrome ParisLongchamp. In addition to the bet placing and race watching, there were several themed amusement games for team building, which were nice to photograph.

The races occurred only every half and hour, so I had to be sure to be outside on the spectator terrace in time for each passing of the horses. To tell the story of the event in one image, I really looked for a shot that incorporated the race horses and also the business-outing element of the occasion.

Asides the main conference and the social networking events, TAXAND’s multi-day summit included many workshops which took place at the hosting hotel and also ARSENE TAXAND’s nearby office spaces. The turnout’s for each workshop varied day to day, so as always, in the case of fewer participants, I sought angles that always gave the impression of a full-room ; as a corporate event photographer, this is always important to keep in mind, as the “bigger” each occasion looks, the more options the client will have, when selecting photographs for marketing purposes.

The first of two networking evenings from TAXAND’s 5-day annual global event, at l’Hôtel du Collectionneur. This particular cocktail event took place in the hotel’s basement foyer, just outside where the main conference would be held the following day.

Despite there being virtually no available light, due to extremely high ceilings, I was rarely able to use flash effectively, and so mainly worked with a 50mm prime lens, finding angles which granted enough available light. When taking candid portraits of groups up close, if possible I tend to avoid using flash in any case, as the light falling on subjects at different distances from the lens will inevitably be unbalanced.

I was hired by the ESN, a non-profit organisation supported by the European Union Programme for Employment and Social Innovation, to document an international workgroup meeting in collaboration with VILLE DE PARIS.

The assigned event space - a very small lecture room - being poorly lit and visually inappropriate, the client requested I focus on closeups and take shots which showed the occasion but not the room. Not an easy task, especially with very limited shooting options, none of which offering any opportunity to distance myself from the subjects and “frame” guests with a narrow depth of field (as would have been appropriate). However, as a professional photographer, such tasks requiring “working with what you’ve got”, offer an element of challenge which is essential for keeping you on your toes.

Networking photography for UK company, CLIMATE ACTION, during their annual conference in Paris. Le Pavillon Dauphine is a well-known location in event circles. Asides from it’s size and purpose-built layout, the large windows of it’s main reception hall, offer a large amount of natural light. The 300-400 guests quickly filled the reception area, so capturing the business of the event wasn’t a problem, event if moving from A to B sometimes was :)

Prior to the guests arrival, in addition to some general location shots, I documented the branding of each sponsor, a job made easier for a photographer by those tables with diverse branding material laid out (company pens, notebooks, mugs etc) so as to have more items with which to frame a shot.

Conference photography for the London-headquartered CLIMATE ACTION, who visited Paris for events surrounding their annual European conference. This consisted of speeches and panel discussions from members of leading enterprises. The afternoon was split into, what’s known in the event industry as “tracks”, which are isolated discussions that occur simultaneously for smaller, more targeted audiences. As an event photographer, the only way to effectively cover tracks is to continuously pass between them, so as not to miss a moment in which one panel member is speaking, which obviously requires a bit of leg work :)

Prior to their annual conference event in Paris CLIMATE ACTION organised a VIP dinner for around 50 guests in a small but well-lit venue. These are photos from an hour’s coverage of the location, the guests arrival, and their being seated.
