PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY IN PARIS
My Portrait clients are typically divided into two types that usually desire very different types of portraiture: "Professionals" such as those requiring photographs in a more corporate context, and "Artists" such as actors, musicians & models, requiring promotional imagery for creative publicity purposes.
Clients can choose to have their portraits taken at their desired location (whether around Paris, at their workplace or at their home) or in my studio.
I request as much information as possible regarding the intended purpose each client has for their portrait photographs, so as to produce images with which they can most effectively "sell themselves", in whatever way that may be.
My approach to retouching portraits is meticulous and ever sensitive to how clients intend to use the final images, whether promotionally or professionally.
ON LOCATION PORTRAITS
Natural Light vs Off-Camera Lighting
As both a Lifestyle Photographer & Portrait Photographer in Paris, I am experienced in creating portraits using both natural light & off-camera flash. Much of my Studio Photography equipment is transportable and can be used On Location. Off-camera lighting gives portraits a definition which often appeals more to clients desiring more creative promotional images.
Clients can either opt to have a mixed Natural Light / Off-Camera Lighting shoot, or choose to have exclusively one or the other. Note that Off-Camera Lighting shoots often need to allow for small "setting up" times when moving from one location to another; Natural Light shoots, which require no extra equipment, have a much more fluid rhythm, and can therefore cover more locations.
For clients seeking very varied portraits, several shoots are advantageous:
We’ll be able to cover more locations / areas
(without losing time in transport).
Different clothing / looks can be adopted for each shoot,
which really helps add variety to the final images.
Clients will be “fresh” for each shoot - being a “model” can be surprisingly tiring after more than an hour, and there is nothing worse than when fatigue starts to show on otherwise beautiful faces :)
I offer reduced prices for multiple shoots.
Color Lighting (Gels)
For clients wanting something more vibrant than the standard white, grey or black backgrounds, I can change both the colour of the background and the subject using gels. This allows endless creative possibilities and is therefore an interesting option for artists.
For something more playful (e.g. jumps, hairflips etc), this "frozen time" look can be a nice addition to a catalogue of portfolio photos.
RETOUCH / POST-PRODUCTION OPTIONS
Refined / High-End Retouch
Standard portrait retouch (removal of blemishes, spots, minor corrections) is enough for the majority of clients, but High-End Retouch (detailed skin correction, hair correction, "line" reduction, removal of body and facial hair) is recommended for models & performers for that pristine "magazine cover" look.
As an experienced graphic designer, in addition to the skin retouch options, I can propose, in post-production, to place the model on whichever backdrop they desire, either using images provided by the client or ones I create. This can be an interesting option for musicians, for example, who seek portrait-based images for promotional material, such as CD covers & flyers.
EXTRAS / FREEBIES
Black & White Bonus
Portrait clients receive an extra black & white edit of each photograph.
Portrait clients will receive at least 3 different crops of each image,
e.g. standard 3x2, 1x1, and 3x4.
If a client has specific requirements for image crops, I can gladly assist,
e.g. a specific image crop for a CV or website profile.
FAQs ABOUT YOUR PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION
Q) What are your package prices?
I don't advertise fixed prices. I give personalized quotes, tailored to the specific needs of each client. This is due to both the diversity of my photography services and the fact that I want clients to get the best out of their budgets.
Q) How many photographs do you submit?
Unless clients specify an amount, I'll propose an image-count based on the scale and duration of the shoot. As with all other aspects of my quote, if what I suggest is not appropriate for a particular client, I'll modify the proposal.
Q) Following your submission, can I purchase more photos?
Absolutely - upon a client's request I can send previews of the outtakes from which they can choose additional photographs for me to edit.
Q) Where is your photography studio?
5 minutes walk from Gambetta Métro station (Line 3, 75020, Paris):
Q) I'd like to choose the portraits myself - is this possible?
Although I recommend leaving the selection process to me, clients are welcome to select their own photographs; I fully appreciate that how one wishes to come across in one's portraits is a very personal thing.
Q) Do you provide a hair / makeup service?
No. However, if portrait clients have the means to do so, I welcome clients to have someone to hand to adjust hair & makeup if necessary.
Q) Can I have both On Location Portraits & Studio Portraits?
Absolutely - I can propose a discounted price for 2 x separate shoots.
Q) I only need 1-2 decent photos - is that possible?
When requesting a quote clients have the opportunity to specify a "Budget", which helps me to make a proposal in their price range. In any case, the more information you provide me with, the better I can accommodate your request - you don't know if you don't ask :)
Q) I've other questions!
