DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY

YOUR PRESS PHOTOGRAPHER IN PARIS

Documentary photography essentially covers any photo genre of a non-corporate and non-commercial nature, and thus typically falls into the area of photojournalism. For this reason many of these types of assignments involve capturing photographs for immediate publication, although an equal amount will focus on providing a more considered and polished final product. This style of photography is second nature to a Paris photographer such as myself whose career has focused above all on candid reportage assignments.

FAQs ABOUT DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY

Q) For urgent requests, how soon can you be available?
Being based in Paris itself, my average travel time for inner city documentary assignments is 30 minutes max.

Q) How do you quote for press photography?
For assignments in Paris, essentially all I need to know is the time that I am required on location.

Q) Do you offer discounted rates for repeat assignments?
Yes.

Q) Can we combine photography services?
Yes, a vast amount of my commissions are 'mixed' in nature; for instance, candid performance documentary can be combined with individual and group artist portraits of each performer.

SPORTS

Sports photography is the pinnacle of action photography and requires not only the latest camera equipment and an abundance of energy, but the experience of knowing where to be at the right time. This is not only to capture fast moving competitors clearly, but to take photographs from perspectives that best bring together all elements of the event in question, including the sportsmen, the spectators, the environment and of course the competition itself.

GATHERINGS

Paris being a major hub of cultural events, the regular parades and rallies held in the French capital make both the national and international news on a regular basis. Effective photojournalist documentary requires energy, attentiveness and forethought, to assure that the right images will be captured from the best perspective, at the most appropriate time. Being based in central Paris, I can deliver coverage of such occasions as they occur.

COLLECTIVE

Community documentaries can cover a whole range of public events and activities, from those sponsored or endorsed by a municipality, to projects led by independent associations. Like all reportage photography, the principal discrete, unobtrusive approach is complemented, whenever possible and appropriate, by portraits of participants or onlookers, either taken spontaneously or as part of a separate, scheduled shoot.

PERFORMANCE

Performance photography can encompass not only documentary of live productions, but all stages of the performers’ creative process, including rehearsals and behind the scenes imagery. In the role of concert photographer, I am conscious of the importance of capturing both the emotion and the energy of each participating artist, whilst maintaining the utmost level of discretion (and, as appropriate, silence, which is of paramount importance when covering orchestral and classical performances).

OPEN AIR

Festival photography celebrates the coming together of thousands of onlookers in outdoor environments to watch live performances or broadcasts. Open air gatherings present the best opportunities to photograph crowds of spectators and partygoers, but the limitless amount of social interactions they bring about.

POLITICAL REPORTAGE

Whether hired to trail a politician through an event itinerary or to be in place to capture an isolated political occurrence, often battling through crowds and competing with fellow media providers for angles, this can be one of the most challenging (and most rewarding) types of press photography and photojournalism.
