PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY IN PARIS
PORTRAITURE FOR ALL PURPOSES
My portrait clients are typically divided into two types: those requiring photographs for use in a more corporate context such as for their online professional profiles, and those requiring promotional imagery for creative publicity purposes, such as photography portfolios for actors, models, and also musicians.
No matter what the desired use of your final portraits, you can choose to have your portraits taken at your desired Paris location; at your workplace or residence; or in my Paris photography studio.
For outdoor photography, whether you want a classic Paris portrait session surrounded key touristic landmarks, or something non-Parisian for more universal use, the 20 unique arrondissements of this great city offer a multitude of options. As a permanent French resident, I can advise on the best portraiture locations for your particular needs, to truly get the look you are after.
I request as much information as possible regarding the intended purpose of each client’s portraits, so as to produce images with which you can most effectively promote yourself, in whatever way and for whatever purpose that might be.
My approach to retouching portraits is meticulous and ever sensitive to how clients intend to use the final images. A model, for example, will typically want high-level retouch, which would be unnecessary for a a business professional, for example.
With regards to lighting, I have all the essential material at my disposal to create any kind of look, in any location; being experienced in both studio photography and natural light photography, I’m comfortable in combining the two through on-location flash. Much of my photo studio equipment is transportable and can setup easily on location.
IDEAS FOR YOUR OUTDOOR HEADSHOT SESSION
For clients seeking very varied portraits, several shoots are advantageous:
We’ll be able to cover more locations, areas and arrondissements (without losing time in transport).
Different clothing and looks can be adopted for each shoot, which really helps add variety to the final images.
You’ll be ”fresh” for each shoot - being a “model” can be surprisingly tiring after more than an hour, and there is nothing worse than when fatigue starts to show on otherwise beautiful faces :)
I offer reduced prices for multiple shoots.
CREATIVE IDEAS FOR STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHY
Color Lighting (Gels)
For clients wanting something more vibrant than the standard white, grey or black backgrounds, using gels I can change both the colour of the background and the subject. This allows endless creative possibilities and is therefore an interesting option for artists.
Refined / High-End Retouch
Standard portrait retouch (removal of blemishes, spots, minor corrections) is enough for the majority of clients, but for performers wanting that pristine "magazine cover" look high-end retouch (detailed skin correction, hair correction, "line reduction, removal of body and facial hair) might be more desirable.
As an experienced graphic designer, in addition to the skin retouch options, I can propose, in post-production, to place the model on whichever backdrop they desire, either using images provided by the client or ones I create. This can be an interesting option for musicians, for example, who seek portrait-based images for promotional material, such as CD covers & flyers.
FAQs ABOUT PORTRAITURE & HEADSHOTS IN PARIS
Q) Where is your photography studio?
5 minutes walk from Gambetta Métro station (Line 3, 75020, Paris):
Q) I'd like to choose the portraits myself - is this possible?
Although I recommend leaving the selection process to me, you are more than welcome to select your own photographs; I fully appreciate that how one wishes to come across in one's portraits is a very personal thing.
Q) Do you provide a hair / makeup service?
No. However, if portrait clients have the means to do so, I welcome clients to have someone to hand to adjust hair & makeup if necessary.
Q) Can I have both on location portraits and studio portraits?
Absolutely - I can propose a discounted price for 2 x separate shoots.
Q) I only need 1-2 decent photos - is that possible?
When requesting a quote, along with their other preferences, clients have the opportunity to communicate and specific budget they might have which helps me to make an appropriate proposal. In any case, the more information you provide me with, the better I can accommodate your request - you don't know if you don't ask :)
PORTRAITS (part 1/3)
NATURAL LIGHT PORTRAITS
Working so much on location, using natural light is second nature to me. This fundamental tool of portraiture allows shoots to unfold very fluidly (no time lost in setting up lights etc), offers greater intimacy (there are no big flashes telling passersby that a photoshoot is in place), and blends seamlessly with any background; if you want a photography session which really brings the environment into play, a natural light photo shoot is the way to go.
PORTRAITS (part 2/3)
For those wanting strict portraiture (as appose to candid images) and a defined look with the emphasis truly on them, then off-camera lighting should certainly be a consideration.
PORTRAITS (part 3/3)
My small but well-equipped photography studio is perfect for solo photo shoots. After defining your needs, we’ll explore together a whole manner of lighting options according to your preferences. In the space of a short session, many different looks can be accomplished, from which you’ll be able to select your favourite images.
